đš Shameless Self-Promotion
Meet my second-born
Itâs been forever since I sent you an email.
Depending on how you feel about this whole operation, that may be đ or âšď¸.
Or maybe you couldnât care less, and I wouldnât begrudge you that. There are many more serious things going on in the world and in your life than this little letter.
Allow me to momentarily cut through all that STUFF to let you know about the child I delivered last month.
Her name is Freeing Right.
Sheâs not so much a child as she is a passion project Iâve put a lot of time and energy into.
Sheâs the guidance I wish I had when I started my freelance career.
Sheâs what Kessentials wouldâve been had I had a clearer sense of direction a year ago.
Mixed metaphors aside, I think the numerous independent workers on this list would benefit significantly from the truths, tidbits, tips, and tricks I share on FR.
The Freeing Right âbrandâ has several iterations:
1. Newsletter
Like many second-borns, particularly ones who become middle children, FR can feel slightly neglected.
But in the silence and solitude of her conflicting roles in the family (clown and conflict resolver), sheâs etched out a maturity for herself that only the keen can appreciate.
Sheâs miles more self-aware than Kessentials, who, at times, tried to be everything for everyone with predictably middling results.
Sheâs not down to compromise her niched-down core because a lot is riding on her authenticity.
You may occasionally catch low-brow jokes about vaginal discharge or extensive disses of recruiters who pissed her off, but amid all that brouhaha is a desire to elevate the collective freelancing experience.
If you liked Kessentials, youâll LOVE Freeing Right.
Once you enter your email to sub to Freeing Right, youâll need to look out for a confirmation email to lock in your subscription.
One of the many things I learned from Kessentials is that the worst kind of subscriber is an unengaged subscriber.
Just like the improved parenting style second-children enjoy, Iâm keen on correcting my rookie mistakes.
2. Twitter
I refuse to call it X because why wouldnât I?
Despite my obviously optimistic view of the platform, I will admit that itâs where Freeing Rightâs seeds were first planted.
One day when Iâm rich and famous, an overzealous journalistâwho had to pay a pretty penny for my thoughtsâwill ask me what role the bird app played in FRâs conception.
Then, and possibly only then, will I wax poetic about the extensive exposure, learnings, and inspiration Iâve drawn from âMoney Twitter.â
For now, all you need to know is thatâs where I post my rapid-fire pieces of (mostly) actionable solo business advice.
My target audience is beginners and people around my experience level (6 years, hold your applause).
Nevertheless, in my dreamy delusion, I imagine even pros can glean something valuable about the dynamic uses of âfuck,â among other things, of course.

3. LinkedIn
Itâs a bit too stuffy and serious on LinkedIn.
When I pop onto that scene, itâs to introduce those who follow me there to the weekâs newsletter.
I may eventually repurpose my tweets into LI posts like all the gurus say you should.
Focusing on the đŚ and only visiting my side đŁ once a week has been working out pretty great.
Bonus: Check out the LinkedIn Lunatics sub and thank me later.
Iâd especially appreciate your participation in the FREE-lancing cohort Iâm launching under this umbrella.
The group mentorship experience is free and open to everyone whoâd like a leg-up in their solopreneurship journeys.
To supercharge everyoneâs results and success, I want to fill four more spots with ambitious independent workers from various backgrounds whoâve been in the game for varying durations.
You can find more info via these Freeing Right posts:
The application form for those who canât be arsed with 1-3
Whether youâre interested in attending it or not, Iâm sure youâve got someone in mind who would kill for this opportunity. So, you know, cheza kama wewe. :)
The reception and love I got and strangely continue to get on Kessentials is awe-inspiring, informative, and just plain nice.
You guys went all out for my first child.
You
brought her gifts,
offered to babysit,
told people about her, and
showed me how I could improve my parenting.
FR saw all that and has threatened to murder me in my sleep if she doesnât receive a similar welcome to the world. đđ
Thus concludes the first Kessentials newsletter with any inkling of news.
I hope you kick ass today.
Unapologetically yours,
Hope.
